Days 2, 3, & 4!

It's been a week since I started my internship here at the Wolf Sanctum, and my flexible schedule is Wednesday, Friday, and Saterday, from 12-6. The wolves are fed Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saterdays, and their water bowls are changed and cleaned every other day or as needed. There are 15 wolves on the compound, and seven pens. most of the wolves have at least one cage mate, except those who simply do not get along with any of the others, such as Rose.

I have gone in and met two of the 'pure' wolves, Cheyenne and Duce, and spent some time getting to know Cheyenne and checking her general health. You see, Cheyenne is a little funny in that she can't stand men, and doesn't care much for Liz, but she adores children and young women. So Liz has her female interns go in with Cheyenne and play with her and pet her so that they can see wether she has an injury (no matter how small!) or if she's on the skinny side under all her fur.

Other than that small interaction with Cheyenne I haven't been in with the wolves all that much, as it's been rainy for the last week or so here in NC. So Liz and I have spent our time doing mostly inside things such as cleaning up the facilities, making sure everything's ship shape for the tours, and Liz has been giving me the low down on all of the wolves. Things such as where each wolf came from, their ages and temperments, their preferences (Cheyenne likes young women, Loki likes males, Timbre only likes Liz, Hokee doesn't like anyone... all of them except Rose destroys any and all stuffed animals that enter their pens, and a couple of them like to kill animals that find themselves too close to the pens, and then let them ripen in hidden spots in the pen before roling in them...), and what special things each of them get ( a couple are on medications and have to be tricked into eating it).

Well, that's all for now! I don't have pictures just yet, however they will be coming as soon as I remember to bring my camera with me to the sanctuary!
